The Lotus Shala

Find your space and stillness amongst the lotus ponds

Named for the eight small lotus ponds that surround it, an homage to Buddhism’s Noble Eightfold Path and our shared journey toward mindfulness, the Lotus Shala has stood as Kampong Cham’s first purpose-built yoga space since we opened in 2018. Constructed entirely from locally sourced bamboo, its open-air layout frames sweeping Mekong River views, a carpet of blooming lotus ponds, and a small Buddhist altar at its centre. Just a brief garden walk from every bungalow and eco-cottage, it brings you close to nature while staying within easy reach of all resort amenities.

Here we host daily yoga classes, guided meditation sessions, and occasional specialty workshops, all led by our resident teachers. As part of our commitment to not only supporting but embracing our local communities, our guest teachers offer free community classes to locals from nearby villages as part of our karma yoga. Whether you join a sunrise or sunset session, the Lotus Shala brings guests and locals together to practice, connect, and support Hanchey’s social-enterprise mission - one mindful breath at a time.

We offer a complimentary Sunrise Yoga class at 7:00 AM and Sunset Yoga class at 6:00 PM every Monday-Friday for all guests when our teacher is available. Please enquire when booking for more information.

for self-discovery and self-reflection

The Lotus Shala is the home of our yoga and meditation offerings at Hanchey - a unique piece of architecture, both in Cambodia and in the world. Built entirely with locally sourced bamboo, and surrounded by the lotus ponds from which it draws its name, this shala provides the perfect opportunity to embrace the natural beauty of Kampong Cham for sunrise and sunset sessions.

A Serene Space For Holistic Wellness

Share your practice as a resident teacher

Each season, Hanchey welcomes a new resident teacher to bring fresh energy and unique practice to our Lotus Shala. Our teachers lead guests through diverse yoga flows, relaxed meditation sessions, and specialist workshops—keeping every visit inspired and aligned. At the same time, classes are a bridge to our local community through sharing the practice with our staff and our local community through weekend karma yoga sessions. Guests return time and again excited to experience the next teacher’s approach, and our community thrives on the continual exchange of ideas and compassionate practice.

We invite experienced instructors to apply at any time. In return, you’ll enjoy sabay living in a private eco-cottage, nourishing meals from our Bamboo Restaurant, and a supportive team ready to help you host retreats or events.
