Meet the Hanchey Bamboo Resort Dogs
As a guest wandering our gardens or heading down to the pool, you’ll almost certainly meet a few of the four-legged friends who share the resort with us. They’ve grown up alongside our team and trainees, and they bring a very sweet energy to the resort. Here’s a little introduction so you know who’s who when they trot over to say hello.
Buddy
“Bamboo Buddy” is normally the first of our furry fiends to greet most guests. He has that warm, confident personality that makes people smile, and he’s usually the one guiding visitors around as if he’s part of the front-office team. We haven’t quite figured out how to get him to shake hands yet, but his relaxed and docile nature lets you know he’s a real, Kampong Cham countryside dog. You might find him lounging by te restaurant when he’s not patrolling the resort or - if he’s feeling cheeky - trying to sneak a nap in the Lotus Shala when nobody is looking.
Aki
Aki is the red-coloured one, with a dark amber coat and a lively, playful nature. He might bounce around a bit, but he’s gentle and responds well to soft voices. You can normally find him closer to the gate and the reception with his tongue out enjoying the Khmer sun!
Mum
Mum likes to spend her time near the security gate, keeping a gentle eye on things. She’s calm, patient, and often seen with her pups nearby. Guests heading out for a village walk will spot her giving a quiet tail wag as they pass - if they’re lucky. We ask that you please give her space for her litter of young puppies as they are not yet ready to interact with guests.
Scaredy Cat
Despite the name, he’s a sweetheart. Scaredy Cat is simply a little shy with new people. If you give him space and are staying for a few weeks, he’ll slowly warm up, especially if you’re sitting somewhere peaceful enjoying the view over the Mekong.
These dogs are part of daily life here. They wander the gardens, nap under the bamboo houses, and occasionally join sunrise guests on the path up to Lotus Shala. If you’re staying with us soon, you’ll get to know their rhythms just as we have.
